Finland is known for its pristine, natural attractions (think epic forests, myriad lakes and vast swathes of pristine wilderness), but our Scandinavian holidays by rail and boat focus on the more human qualities of Helsinki – the country’s design-led capital. This is a city where cultures collide: the centre is a spectacular ensemble of both modern and stately architecture; and Uspenski Cathedral, the largest Orthodox church in Western Europe, wouldn’t look out of place in central Moscow.
