Denmark – a land surrounded by sea
Denmark is the stepping stone between central Europe and Scandinavia proper, not simply geographically, but culturally, too. Comprising the Jutland Peninsula, which borders Germany, and numerous islands, of which Zealand and Funen are the largest, it is a country where the sea is omnipresent, and fish and seafood feature widely on menus.
Along the coast, brightly painted wooden beach huts contrast with the white-sand beaches. The pristine villages are no less colourful, their mustard, red or white walls topped with thick thatch, sheltering, one could easily believe, many a character from Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tales.
