If you like longer, hillier routes, you'll appreciate a moderate-to-challenging self-guided cycling holiday. Equipped with a high-quality bike and lovingly researched route notes, you pedal at your own pace from one delightful hotel to another, while your luggage istransferred.
While all Inntravel cycling holidays are designed for ‘amateur’ cyclists, we recognise that some people prefer more cycling than others, and are looking for holidays featuring fuller days in the saddle and more dramatic scenery. Although the routes may be generally longer, it’s still you who sets the pace, and there’s time for cultural visits along the way, so you won’t miss out on the castles, archaeological sites or markets.
What’s more, you usually spend two nights at each welcoming hotel, giving you the chance to explore each location some more (our meticulously compiled route notes provide suggestions and, because you’re not in a group, the choice is yours).
Holiday suggestions
At present, we don't have any grade 2-3 holidays in our selection. You might like to consider some of our grade 2 options instead – holidays such as Idyllic Istria in Croatia, Baroque Sicily by Bike and Tuscany on Two Wheels feature relatively long routes each day.
How Inntravel cycling holidays are graded
Inntravel offers four different levels of cycling holiday, all aimed at ‘amateur’ cyclists. To be sure that our moderate-to-challenging cycling holidays (grade 2-3) are right for you, check our grading system below. (Or you can upgrade to an electric bike for help make hills and longer routes easier; our grading system assumes you are using a ‘regular’ bike.)
Grade 1
Easy cycling for all with shorter days mainly on the flat, but some gentle ascents.
Grade 1-2
Easy-to-moderate cycling featuring undulating routes with more frequent short ascents, and a mix of shorter and longer days.
Grade 2
Moderate cycling with some longer, steady uphill sections, and longer days.
Grade 2-3
Fairly strenuous cycling featuring longer days with some sustained climbs. (We don't currently have any holidays at this level.)
What to expect from your cycling holiday
There are three cornerstones of Inntravel holidays: captivating scenery; accommodation hand-picked by us for the friendliness of its welcome; and flavoursome regional cuisine.
Route notes you can rely on
We take pride in producing route guides with all the information you’ll ever need, and update them continually, so you can trust their accuracy. As well as containing directions from A to B to C, which you follow at your own pace, they enrich your holiday experience by telling you about the places you pass through, local traditions, and more.
Your holiday, your way
Independent holidays offer so much more freedom than a group holiday. Pick a start date to suit you, build in extra nights at any hotel along the route, choose how you travel – by air, rail or ferry – and from where. You’ll also get to experience smaller, more intimate hotels and, best of all, you can be entirely spontaneous as you explore.
Make the most of our expertise
The expertise that we’ve built up since starting in 1984 is greatly valued by our customers. The friendly experts with whom you speak by phone or converse via email share a passion for travel and have first-hand knowledge of our cycling holidays. They’ll be pleased to answer your questions and put together your ideal holiday.
