Join the Inntravel team

Our vision is for our Inntravellers to have career experiences they never dared to dream of.

Our people are pioneers. They always have been. Self-guided walking holidays started with Inntravel, since then we've added cycling and journeys to our range, and we hold tight to our ability to learn new skills and chart new paths that lead us to new markets, back to our customers – both new and returning, and to the little-known trail you’d miss were it not for our curious minds and love of exploration.

Our values of progress, innovation, curiosity, and achievement attract and retain a diverse, skilled and passionate team. Our team choose to work for us. Inntravel’s employee NPS rocks (we’re talking ‘employer award-winning’ rocks).

Our enhanced travel itineraries deliver exceptional customer experiences and we reinvest profit into our people to ensure we are skilled in emerging disciplines that keep our curious minds busy. Our flexible approach to where and how we work has enabled us to reach a more diverse talent pool than we ever have before.

Within our Inntravel team we have an incredible mix of skills recruited from the local community ensuring a unique culture, but also welcoming those recruited from further afield – recognising that delivering the best walking, rail & cycling holidays needs the best people for the job.

Together, we deliver holidays that our customers love, and we’ve won awards for our customer service.

Our teams

There are more than 90 of us based at our North Yorkshire office. It’s impossible to paint a picture of a typical member of staff, as we’re an eclectic bunch – ages range from early twenties to mid-sixties, with interests covering everything from gardening to competing in triathlons, all connected by our love of responsible travel. About a quarter live in York and surrounding villages, while a similar number live in the Malton area, but our hybrid working policy allows Inntravel to attract talent from further afield too.

A great place to work

People are at the heart of everything we do, and we strive to make Inntravel a great place to work. You’ve just got to look at the number of people who have worked for Inntravel for ten years or more – 28 at the last count – to see that we must be doing something right. Here are just some of the reasons why people tend to stick around:

• The friendly, down-to-earth atmosphere in the office

• The opportunities for travel (we like as many members of staff as possible to experience Inntravel holidays and destinations, so organise regular ‘fam’ (familiarisation) trips)

• Being based in the country (nothing beats a bit of fresh air for clearing the mind at lunchtime; we even have a welly cupboard for muddy days)

The satisfaction of helping to plan people’s holidays (if we’re ever having a bad day – and it does happen occasionally! – we only have to read a few customer reviews to remind ourselves why we’re in the travel business)

• The variety (you never quite know what each day is going to throw at you. Be it bad (rail strikes, flight cancellations) or good (arranging someone’s honeymoon, winning an award), work at Inntravel is rarely boring)

 • The strong values (we take great pride in our holidays, and the things we believe in – fairness, expertise, openness, and not being afraid to be different – are reflected as strongly in the office culture as in our dealings with customers and suppliers)

• The chance to make a real contribution to a growing, dynamic business (we’re still small enough that you can see the difference you make to the company, rather than feeling like a small cog in a big machine)

• The social life (rarely a month goes by without a round-robin email inviting everyone along to some gathering or other, plus everyone’s welcome to join the croquet, yoga, fitness and crafting clubs which run at lunchtime)

On top of that, you also benefit from:

• 25 days’ holiday a year (this rises to 30 days after 5 years with the company), plus the option to ‘buy’ additional holiday leave

• Pension scheme and life assurance

• A generous discount scheme on holidays across the Hotelplan range – everything from adventure tours to ski holidays

• A healthcare cashback scheme that allows you to claim back money on a number of healthcare costs, including dental treatments and optician costs

• ‘Cycle to Work’ scheme

• Employment Assistance Programme – a 24/7 helpline offering practical and emotional support for a whole range of issues

• 2 volunteer days a year

*Importantly, since we offer self-guided activity holidays rather than group departures, our team does not include guides or overseas representatives. Please also note that you require your own vehicle to work at Inntravel as we’re not served by public transport.
