Within such a massive range, especially one that spans so many countries, including Austria, Switzerland, France, Germany, Italy and Slovenia, there is, understandably, great variety – from the frescoed, stone-built houses that characterise the Engadine in eastern Switzerland to the onion-domed churches of the Tyrol. All our chosen regions, however, are wonderful places to enjoy the great outdoors, with superb networks of footpaths – and cycle trails – to explore. Late June and early July are justly popular because of the glorious displays of flowers, but you may prefer to follow the locals’ lead and wait until September or October, when the slopes are wonderfully tranquil and the views clearer. Come winter, we offer snow holidays in many of these same regions, where you can enjoy activities such as cross-country skiing, winter walking, snowshoeing and downhill skiing away from the crowds.
