A great trip, beautiful places to stay and fabulous food. We loved it.
Very well organised from start to finish, everything ran smoothly and we had a great time, beautiful scenery, routes carefully planned to avoid traffic wherever possible. The bikes were in top condition and really good to ride. The transfers to and from the airport were excellent, as was the booking process. They were very helpful in accommodating us for seven days instead of eight. I would certainly use Inntravel again.
Excellent holiday! Lots of variety in landscape, architecture and accommodation, with Masseria Panareo and the Relais Corte Palmeria both very good. A treat to swim in the Adriatic and Ionian seas. The e-bike was a revelation and highly recommended. An extra night in Lecce at the end allowed more time to see it if you appreciate art and architecture and enjoy the great restaurants.

So many memories:
Spontanoeus swimming
Wonderful woodland aromas
Tired limbs, inspired minds
Four course fabulous meals
A birthday en-route
Countryside, sea and town all in a day
Evening chats with fellow travellers
We did have a great holiday. Lovely hotels, great food and amazing weather. It was a cycling holiday and unfortunately the quality of the bikes let the it down. Other people we spoke seem to have much better bikes and were happy with them. It seemed to be a very busy time and I think we ended up with bikes that they hire out for use around a city and not for cycle touring which was a shame.
Good holiday - if we were doing it again we would build in an extra day at a midway coastal area for some relaxation between route rides. Special mention goes to the Masseria Coppertini family who found my wallet and put it in our luggage to be taken to the next hotel, before we realised it was lost. Huge praise and thanks to them. The family were very welcoming and proud to tell us about the food, its provenance and local farming. We cycled back on our last day to spend more time in Acaya, via Vernole as there wasn't time on our first day of cycling.
Cycling around the Salento is a great way to see this quieter corner of Puglia which is mostly very rural with a few coastal hotspots of local tourism particularly around the interesting towns like Otranto, Santa Maria de Leuca and Gallipoli The real highlitghts of the holiday are the fabulous Masseria we stayed in and the food and service provided by them. We always had a great welcome from the owning families and their staff. Also notable was the work being carried out to repair the devastation to virtually all the olive groves in the region caused by the Xylella fastidiosa pathogen. The old groves are being cut down and the stumps ripped out with new, diease resistant varieties being planted.
We had a fabulous holiday cycling around Puglia, although wish we'd gone for e-bikes as some of the hills were very challenging especially in the 30+ degree heat! We will definitely book with Inntravel again, perhaps with less days cycling and a few days extended on the end without the bikes, best of both worlds!
A very well organised trip. Itinerary was well planned and provided a good balance of different scenery, terrain and views. Trip notes and BikeGPX files provided really clear instructions and meant we could follow the routes easily. All accommodation was very welcoming and comfortable, with very helpful staff. All of the transfers (for ourselves and our luggage) happened very smoothly. Would highly recommend this trip.
La Cutura is definitely worth a visit. Day 3 was stunning we had a great lunch at Tricase Porto at Taverna del Porto. Don't be intimidated by the longer route on day 5, it's very flat and easy cycling. Otranto and Gallipoli were picturesque towns. Equally every small village we passed through had a beautiful square. A lovely way to see this part of Puglia.
All 3 accommodations were excellent. The food at Alcorico was particularly lovely. As usual the overall holiday was great. Inntravel always choose top quality places to stay.
We had a great holiday, thanks. Although we found 3 steep hills that we walked up, and a few other, generally it was the right cycling difficulty for us; and we enjoyed it. If we did it again, my wife would have an electric bike.
This was not our first holiday with Inntravel nor will it be our last. The accommodation, as ever, was superb. Each masseria was very different but all were equally comfortable/ luxurious without being "showy". The cycling routes were well chosen and easy to follow. The wild flowers were amazing and for me the highlight of the trip. Unusually, dinner was included every night but one and was superb every single night- just as well we were cycling to work it off. I would thoroughly recommend this holiday even though the weather was not brilliant!
This was a great holiday, the best way to see the coast and countryside of this part of Puglia, cycling on e-bikes allowed us to enjoy the beautiful coastline and wonderful wild flowers, villages and towns at just the right pace. Feeling a sense of achievement but not exhausted with the help of the E in the bikes. We were delighted with the pride and care all the owners and staff at the Masseria's had. The food was always wonderfully prepared, fresh, produced with pride and delicious. The wine also knowledgeably recommended. We enjoyed the holiday even more than expected, and would have no reservation in recommending it.
Definitely the quality of accommodation, the hospitality and welcome we received and of course the most amazing food. Each had their own appeal albeit rustic charm or modern elegance, and we felt we were experiencing real Italy. Although our weather was a real mixed bag as in we encountered hail, thunder, lightening, you name it - we still had the most amazing holiday and it did not spoil any aspect. If anything it made it feel an even greater experience
Too many highlights to mention, but we loved Lecce, Otranto and Gallipoli (especially the sunset at Gallipoli.) The cycle included a good mix of history/culture and nature. I'd recommend Galatina for a stop (see above).
Personal highlights - the beautiful sea views, cycling on empty little lanes, wonderful seafood, John learning about jam making at Masseria Copertino (in Italian!), cold (refreshing) swimming pools but warm sea. Well organised cycling holiday with good hybrid bikes, staying in a lovely range of contrasting Masseria. The cycle routes were a good length with one hilly and one longer day to test the legs, but all enjoyable. A lovely quiet part of Italy with fantastic sea views and good food and wine. Met other Inntravellers at the Masseria and it was interesting to compare notes on the walking and cycling. Sad element was the state of the Olive Trees, but they are replanting and there was signs of some re-growth.
Our first Inntravel holiday and our first ever cycling holiday! Salento was the perfect cycling destination - blue skies, sparkling seas, quiet roads, fascinating fortified towns and villages and gorgeous masseria to stay in. We loved the e-bikes - they were so easy to master and meant we enjoyed every single kilometre - even the uphill ones!
All Masseria in beautiful locations, with a feeling of luxury at Panareo and Chicco Rizzo and great food and choice of wine, probably Chicco Rizzo having the edge. Copertini and Algerico were in beautiful settings with friendly, proprietors and a delicious second night meal at Algerico. Al Pescatore felt as though it was going downhill slightly although the receptionists were delightful and helpful.
NB all breakfasts were lovely, coffee great, fresh fruit, breads and pastries yoghurt etc. Above what we expected.
Lecce, Otranto, Bari towns were all exceptional.
Train service was impressive.
The masserias were super.
My friend left her passport behind in one of the hotels, we telephoned Inntravel and they managed to send it by taxi for us making the distress of losing it so much better. The food we had was amazing as was the accommodations and the staff very friendly and welcoming. In our last place Masseria Chicco Rico we were not being picked until 17.30 and the staff were very happy for us to us the hotel until then.
We had a thoroughly enjoyable week cycling in Puglia. Would highly recommend.
Overall sadly have to say holiday did not meet our expectations
With advice from every side recommending us to book e-bikes, we are still pleased that we stuck with regular bikes. Loved the daily variety of route & scenery & have lots of praise for Inntravel for all the arrangements made & the places chosen for us to stay. Big Thanks.
Overall very happy with the holiday, particularly the first half, Good bicycles, seemed new for the season, transfers worked well, comprehensive holiday notes.
Mrs Wignall fell off her bicycle on the 5th day (hit a pothole) and had to go to hospital for stitches in her legs. Consequently she could not cycle for the last too days or enjoy the swimming pools. The helpful taxi driver took her with the luggage for the last few transfers. She has been checked out at home now and all is on the way to a good recovery. It just one of those things that can happen and did not affect our opinion of the holiday.
Museo Archeologica Faggiano (a rambling multi-floored old house to explore with a remarkable history) in Lecce well worth a visit.
We loved this holiday, our 5th with Inntravel. The scenery was beautiful and we were so lucky to be there for the wild flowers which were everywhere. The accommodation was generally good, with the highlights being Masseria Panareo and Chicco Rizzo. Would definitely do this or a similar cycling holiday again.
Excellent region for a cycling break. We went in April/May and the roads were reasonably quiet, except the SP358 on the east coast, which we happened to negotiate on a bank holiday and was quite busy, especially with motorbikes (invariably not taking any notice of the speed limits). Some of the other roads may also be busy in the high season. Generally very good accommodation & food, but we didn't feel the Al Pescatore Hotel in Gallipolli was anythig like the claimed 4 star rating. We finished our holiday with an extra couple of nights in Lecce, which we enjoyed and can recommend.
