The scenery throughout was wonderful. The welcome at Agathawirt was exceptional.
We would recommend starting the transfer walk from St Agatha to Hallstat at a reasonable time. It is not that long a walk and allows plenty of time to visit the Salt Mine in Hallstat in the afternoon.
Salzburg is a worthy addition ... pre-Vienna Mozart in a nut-shell, and it's worth booking a concert. Despite the tourisits - visit both his birth home and the family's subsequent residence. However, be aware that the family home was flattened by a bomb during the latter stages of WW2. What you see is a 1970's complete rebuild. But still remarkable ... the family were quite affluent and the homes are full of Mozart detail and artefacts.
Visiting the palace / art gallery is also a treat - the state rooms are quite something. You can also get to see much of the cathederal from the galleries. So, if you are pushed for time miss the full visit to the cathederal. Art aficionados should also look out for the painting by Hieronymus Bosch - The Temptation of St Anthony. It's on the left of a door as you leave the cathederal section of the palace tour. Much too inconspicuous a hangining for such a significant work.
The fortress on the hill is also worth walking up to. The most interesting parts are the royal chambers.
A fabulous holiday: fairly demanding walking but glorious scenery, amid the peace of pine forests, stunning lakes and dramatic rivers and gorges. We added a fascinating day and a half in Salzburg - a really beautiful and fairly compact city, the perfect end to our trip (although we would have loved a further couple of days in the beautiful mountains afterwards!) Do go to a concert in the stunning Marble Hall at the Mirabelle Palace while you are in Salzburg - a musical treat, as well as a rare opportunity to listen to music in the very room where Mozart and his father and sister played to the prince. The hotels were all excellent - comfortable and friendly, with excellent service and delicious food.

The combination of Salzburg, the Bavarian Alps and Munich gave us a wonderful mix of history, culture, music, exercise and nature. All of Inntravel's hotels were of very high standard.... and we especially loved being pampered at the two hotels in the Alps.
This is our fourth Inntravel holiday experience and it lived up to our expectations: excellent walking notes and great hotels.
In Salzburg we had a delicious meal at the small neighbourhood Italian 'Pasta und Vino' only a block down Wolf-DietrichStrasse from the hotel.
INNTRAVEL NOTE: These customers combined our Munich & Füssen Romantic Bavaria and The Leutasch Valley walking holidays, followed by a stay in Salzburg
HIGHLIGHTS: The walks from Mosern to Weidach and Reindlau back to Mosern felt like real journeys from one valley to another, with great and varied scenery. The food and hospitality at the Inntaler hof (especially Happy Man cocktails each night). In Salzburg my wife just loved the Sound of Music Tour and we both loved Salzburg as a city.
